Saturday Morning - The Big Day Out

This is THE day for the Club's training rides and there are more choices than you can poke a stick at. A note from StyleMan: full club kit required.

The Early Rat's Starters
meet at 5.30am at Rat's Corner for a steady loop of about 47kms at Medium pace (~40kph) arriving at The Longhouse just on 7am.

The Rat's Starters
meet at 6am at Rat's Corner for a basic Rat's Loop, but instead head down Adam / Lornie Road after rejoining Holland Road. Beware the sprint over Balestier Rd - it has become one of the most contested on the circuit. About 25kms at Medium pace (30+kph) arriving at The Longhouse just before 7am.

The Longhouse Starters
After joining their Rat's Starting brothers & sisters, the Longhouse Starters have 5 options as mentioned below.  Prior to starting, each group will convene to highlight firstly the 'Ride Captain' with, if any, helpers. The Ride Captain will deliver the ride etiquette, protocol, speed and/or route changes if any.  At this stage new riders to the group should identify themselves in order for the more experienced riders to find out who knows the route and who does not. If you don't know the route, please try and pair up with someone who does, so that when you take your pulls, you'll be going in the right direction. In order to keep these group rides as safe as possible all riders are requested to partake in the group brief before the ride commences.
  • Easy Kranji -This group leaves the Longhouse at ~7am following Upper Thompson, Old Upper Thompson, Mandai Rd to Woodlands Rd. Through Kranji out to Lim Chu Kang. Heading back down Boon Lay Way they usually get to Coffee Bean - opposite the Rat's Corner, "The Forum" (583 Orchard Road) by 8:45am. About 50km Easy pace ~28kph
  • Kranji - Leaving about 5 mins after the Easy Kranji Group, the Kranji and Changi Groups follow the same path up to Mandai Rd. The Kranji Group then heads down Mandai in pursuit of the Easy group but instead continues on Lim Chu Kang to West Coast Highway. After South Bouna Vista they typically hit Coffee Bean around 9am. About 60kms Medium Pace ~36kph
  • Fast Changi - The Changi Group leaves before all others, and heads towards Yishun. After meandering their way through Hougang the bunch finds itself in Changi Village. Then the group follows the East Coast Service Rd (shedding east coast riders along the way) back to City and to the Coffee Bean around 10:30am. About 90kms Fast pace ~40+kph
  • Changi Medium will leave 15 secs. after the Changi Fast, and will be aiming for an average speed of 32-33km, this means we should be rolling steadily around 36km give or take a few hills!! For those who think the Fast Changi is a little on the fast side and also those from the faster Kranji’ers who would want a change of scenery. 32-33kph
  • Steady Steady Changi - This ride will depart same time as other groups - 7am Longhouse. Will stop in Changi Village to refill water bottles etc and will arrive a bit later at the Coffee Bean, at least the queues will be gone! For those Kranji riders that want a change of scenery and a slightly longer distance this is for you, and anyone else that wishes to join. Great for more experienced riders to introduce their significant other to cycling, as a recovery ride, or for beginners to feel what a nice easy-paced long ride is all about. Approximtely 80-85km. Denise, Noel or Jimmy as Ride Captains. 29kph.
